Design and realization of a bench concept for the Hilversum Municipality, The Netherlands.
Design
The De Meent residential area in Hilversum was built in the 1970s. It is a so-called spaghetti or cauliflower neighbourhood. Viewed from above, such a neighbourhood is characterized by one main road, from which small, winding streets branch off. This road map became the basic concept for the bench, which was designed with a stainless steel frame and wooden seating elements for comfort. The bench stands in a square in the middle of the town and has become a meeting place for the neighbourhood’s residents.
